"What have I ever done to deserve all this?" he asked.

"He" was actually named Mark Johnson, and as far as he could tell, he was the last human on Earth. However, he refused to believe that. As he packed up his tent and belongings, he traveled on to find anyone who could have survived. It was like his job now. Every so often, he would come to a place to stop and rest, but now was his time to keep going. Eventually, he came upon a remote sandy area. But as he continued on, he realized he wasn't in a desert…

He was in a park…

He looked at a sign that read "Forestville City Park", which was crooked and sinking in the sand. "Not much of a park anymore. Must've been hit hard after the radiation…" he thought. As the word "radiation" came to mind, everything came back to him…

However, the radiation wasn't the first thing to come back to him. The first thing that came to him was the disease. At the time, there wasn't a name for it, as it was completely new. At first, it didn't seem like much, but as more and more people became infected, people became worried. Every day, some hundreds of people would die of the disease, and with no cure, it seemed impossible to stop.

Then, they found the one thing that could stop it…

After many tests, government officials realized that the disease could be blocked using radiation (the disease didn't show up in X-rays). After this discovery, they all went to work to treat patients with this new "cure". It wouldn't completely kill the virus, but it would help prevent it. And that's when everything went wrong…

Whether it was a radiation source gone wrong, or some other malfunction, there were reports from all over the world about radiation outbreaks, most in major cities around the world. But that wasn't the only problem: The country that had distributed the cure gave it to other countries in the world to help promote themselves (as well as some financial help). This cause bitterness towards the country. Many people across the globe threatened them for their mistake.

But it wasn't until a few days later until someone finally took action. Around mid-afternoon, a full nuclear strike was released on the country. In seconds, it was torn to pieces, leaving unimaginable craters In the ground…

And incredible radiation that spread everywhere…

At this point, the disease had become so advanced that it couldn't be killed by a regular amount of radiation. But after the nuclear strike, the disease literally carried the radiation to every part of the world, which in return, killed the disease, along with nearly every plant, every animal, and every human (as well as tainting the water supply). Finally, weeks later, the radiation vanished, making the world seem like a war zone.

Now, it was three years later, and virtually, nothing had changed. Mark was the only one left, and he was determined to find others. He wanted to live his life with someone else. He couldn't think about living alone for the rest of his life.

Especially what he saw before everything had happened…
